2012 Artomatic

June 5th, 2012 by Fitz, Travel Adventures & Places, 0 Comments

Took a break for work this weekend to zip down to Artomatic for a bit. It’s HUGE this year. Over 1300 artists and eleven friggin’ floors! Will and I barely made it thru the top three before they were closing it down at 5. We’ll have to go back and catch the other eight before it closes down June 23rd. Below are a set of insta-artomatic pix of just a smattering of what I saw. My personal favorites? Chris Bishop and Jared Davis.

So what is Artomatic? It’s essentially the biggest DC-area art show where just about anybody can participate. All mediums are included (paintings, sculptures, musicians, etc.) and the art ranges from top-notch to, uh, let’s just say “challenged”. Every year the venue for Atromatic changes. It’s usually in a warehouse or large corporate space that in between tenants. This year it’s in Crystal City Virginia:

1851 S. Bell Street
Crystal City, Virginia 22202

If you’re an artist and would like to participate I say jump in. My band the Mesmers played there several times and quite enjoyed it. I don’t know that it’s a great career move but it is fun.

If you’re an observer I say plan to spend some serious time getting thru the entire thing. It’s pretty daunting this year. I’d take a few wine or bear breaks (which they serve at the venue) here and there to break things up.
