Crumar Performer

In contrast to my war torn Crumar Orchestrator, my Crumar Performer was almost pristine – it even came with the original carrying bag. I secured it from the always too tempting EBay for a pretty good price many years ago. It worked fine. It sounded fine. So why did I never end up using it? I don’t really know but it sat in my studio for a while, usually lurking under a desk or moping around in a corner, before I decided to sell it off to someone who’d make better use of it. It turned out that someone was Jeffery Koepper, and electronic musician out of Baltimore who’s made some very good albums. I don’t know if my unit actually appears on any of his CDs but every time I hear a string machine on one I like to imagine it’s my old Performer.

Again, I’m not sure why the Performer and I never clicked. Instruments are just that way. Some you love and some you should love, but don’t. I will say that its string sound was more flexible than the Orchestrator’s with attack time and more extensive EQ, but the overall tone quality of the Orchestrator was somehow more to my liking.
