Giant Bull Head

Who says American roadside attractions are dying? The Porter Sculpture Park, located in Montrose South Dakota, is alive, well, and always expanding. My visit to it was one of those happy accidents that can occur when you don’t really have a set schedule or plan for your travels. I was driving along Interstate 90, noticed a HUGE bull’s head off to the side, and stopped in to take a look.

For $6 I got to tour the park and spend some time talking with Mr. Porter himself. The sculptures are whimsical, industrial objects with a lot of character. And they’re LARGE. Really, large! The Bull’s head is the biggest and is as large as one of the heads on Mt. Rushmore. If you’re passing thru the area you should stop in a give the place a look. Mr. Porter is fun to chat with and the many sculptures are compelling to see and photograph.
