Corn Palace

October 5th, 2011 by Fitz, Travel Adventures & Places, 0 Comments

In years gone by a South Dakota Corn Palace was an impressive structure. They were built for agricultural expos and constructed entirely of wood with corn cladding to produce very impressive facades. Take a look at this old picture of one.

Today the Corn Palace is a concrete & brick building with a little bit of corn here and there on the outside – more a tourist trap than a compelling construction. Inside is a large amphitheater, some food vendors, and info and pictures of Corn Palace history. Across the street is a small “Ye Ole Western”-style strip mall of shops.
