The most impressive art exhibit at this year’s Burn was the massive, almost modernist Trojan Horse. It had a great design and great shtick. The design you can see below. For schtick they had a small reenactment of the battle between the Trojans and the Greeks (though some of the participants seems a bit confused and kept yelling “Death to the Romans!”). Then they had a bunch of burners drag the thing out onto the playa with massive ropes. Finally it was given the full “Man burn” treatment with fire dancers, being shot with flaming arrows, fireworks, and bombastic immolation.
Again, my only complaint is this made the real burning of the Man on the next day a bit of a let down. In fact, I’d say the burning of the Trojan horse was substantially better than the burning of the Man.
I also found the burning of the horse kind of sad. It’s not going to perennially reconstructed like the Man. It’s forever gone. :(
